When a brilliant but trigger-happy detective (played by martial arts powerhouse Max Zhang) is outsmarted by a serial killer, he pays a high price for his momentary lapse in judgment. Robbed of his fiancée and job, he soon spirals out of control and returns to what he knows best: fighting. But, unbeknownst to him, a serendipitous reunion with an old rival (Brazilian mixed martial artist Anderson Silva) may be the key to unlocking the truth about his fiancée’s disappearance and apprehending the killer.

Four stories make up this episodic film in which the director recounts four of his dreams. The explored dreams are Tung, a down-on-his-luck young man who decides to hold a fake wedding to pay his debt to a finance company; Fan, a depressed white-collar worker whose boss is trying to steal his girlfriend; Tung Tung, a writer who reunites with her long-lost mother, and Chun, a bus driver inspired by four "ghost ladies" to believe in his musical talent.

When a series of eerie murders erupt across Hong Kong, two troublemaking cops are assigned to the case. Young maverick Wang (Zhang Wen) is a reckless risk-taker, and grizzled vet Huang (Jet Li) is fed up with cleaning up his rookie's messes. But, after discovering all the victims were former boyfriends of aspiring starlet Liu, the detectives (one now posing as her lover) are caught in a deadly game to lure the killer out.
